WOMENS HAKA WORKSHOP
Experience the character, heart and spirit of the Haka

The Women’s Haka is a traditional dance that invokes and expresses a womans potency, her power, virtues, culture, lore, and sacredness. It is the summoning of her strength and spiritual power and is a display of unison.
In the WOMEN’S HAKA WORKSHOP, Mihirangi shares the sacred art of haka, a cultural journey that embodies the strength and spirit of Mana Wāhine – the prestige, power and authority of the feminine. Through Māori cultural practices, Mihirangi unveils the rich history, meaning, and power behind the haka, guiding participants to channel their inner strength and express themselves through their lineages with confidence and pride. Join Mihirangi in discovering the empowering essence of the haka—a transformative journey where women embrace their strength, unity, and femininity in a celebration of power and resilience.
Participants will learn the calls, actions, words & their history, meaning, traditions, protocols and power. There are traditional and contemporary haka for many occasions and women have always had their own haka that invokes and expresses her potency, her power, virtues, culture, lore, and sacredness. No singing or dancing experience is necessary.
This workshop will be followed by a Family HANGI where participants families are invited to join and witness the women in their Haka and share a family feast.Friday 29th of March : 4pm – 6pm Durrumbul Hall

ABOUT MĀMA MIHIRANGI
Māmā Mihirangi, is a revered artist, musician, and Tohunga (traditional healer) from Aotearoa, New Zealand. A proud advocate of her Ngāti Rākei and Ngāti Waikorara ancestry, deeply immersed in her culture with a musical upbringing, Mihirangi is a champion for the equality of the Divine Spirituality of the Feminine, Nature, Indigenising Women’s lives, and Empowering Women. Mihirangi’s embodiment of her Māori ancestry, along with 27 years of international touring, meeting and collaborating with Indigenous Peoples, imbues her with a wealth of knowledge and experience that transcends boundaries, enriching lives through her transformative workshops.
